Suyog Wagh wins 2nd JK's ECA One Day Rapid Rating Open 2024

FM Suyog Wagh and GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 at 2nd JK's ECA One Day Rapid Rating Open 2024. Suyog won the tournament due to better tie-break scores, Mitrabha was placed second. GM Sriram Jha and Advik Amit Agrawal scored 8/9 each. Sriram was placed third and Advik fourth. The total prize fund was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹50000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine-round Swiss league rapid rating tournament was organized by JK's Excellence Chess Academy at Abhiruchi Mall in Pune, Maharashtra on 15th December. 9-year-old Advik Amit Agrawal impresses

Four players - GM Sankalp Gupta, GM Mitrabha Guha, IM Arghyadip Das and FM Suyog Wagh were in the lead 7.5/8, before the final round. Suyog defeated Sankalp and Mitrabha won against Arghyadip. Suyog became champion, Mitrabha runner-up. IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam lost to GM Sriram Jha. Thus, Sriram finished third. 9-year-old Advik Amit Agrawal scored an impressive 8/9 to finish fourth. The Asian Under-10 Open 2024 Silver medalist is the youngest top ten finisher of the event. Suyog also went on to win another rapid rating tournament a fortnight after the conclusion of this tournament. It will be mentioned in detail in a separate report.

A total of 569 players including four GMs and six IMs took part from various parts of India and also from Australia, Germany, Iceland, Mauritius, Netherlands, USA and Zambia. The tournament was organized by JK's Excellence Chess Academy at Abhiruchi Mall in Pune, Maharashtra on 15th December 2024. The nine-round Swiss league Rapid Rating tournament had a time control of 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
