Sourabh Mhamane dominates 360 One Mumbai Rating Open 2022

Sourabh Mhamane scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 360 One Mumbai Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Akshit Jha scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Four players finished at 7/9. IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni secured the third place due to better tie-breaks. Sourabh drew with Akshit in the final round and defeated Vikramaditya in the previous. The six-day nine-round rating tournament was organized by Indian Chess School at World Trade Center in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. Sourabh's first Rating Open triumph

19-year-old Sourabh Mhamane won his first Rating Open tournament on the very last day of 2022. The teenager from Pune, prevailed against the remaining podium finishers. The Under-13 Rating tournament report will be published in a separate article.

Position after 16.Nb3

Sourabh Mhamane (1717) made a very nice positional knight sacrifice 16.Nb3. White does not get anything immediately after 16...Qxc6. However, there is certainly a long term advantage which he capitalized on against IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni (2279). 17.e4 N5f6 18.Rfd1 Qc7 19.c6 Nb6 20.d5 White built on his advantage and went on to win the game.

A total of 135 players including 2 IMs took part from various states across the country and a player from the USA. The six-day nine-round Swiss league Rating tournament was organized by Indian Chess School at World Trade Center in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 26th to 31st December 2022. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
