Sammed Shete triumphs at 19th Shri Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023

IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete, GM Laxman R R and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored 8/9 each at 19th Shri Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023. Sammed won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Laxman and Vikramaditya were placed second and third respectively. The top three finishers did not face each other. Laxman and Vikramaditya remained undefeated. Sammed won his last six games consecutively after losing his third round game. The total prize fund for the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹60000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. This was Sammed's eleventh tournament triumph of the year. Five players - WIM Rucha Pujari, GM Laxman R R, IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni, IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete and IM Raahul V S were at 7/8 each, going into the final round. Sammed defeated Rucha, Laxman won against Raahul and Vikramaditya beat IM Nubairshah Shaikh. Thus, Sammed became champion, Laxman second and Vikramaditya third. Rucha became the sole woman to make a top ten finish. She was placed seventh with a 7/9 score.

Buddhibal Kreeda Trust felicitated the newly crowned National Under-9 Open champion - Advik Agrawal

A total of 301 players including a GM, seven IM and a WIM took part from various places all over the country, one from Germany and three from Iceland in this two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Buddhibal Kreeda Trust at Ashwamedh Hall and Ganesh Sabhagruh in Pune, Maharashtra on 10th and 11th November 2023. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move.
