Abhimanyu Puranik wins 3rd Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Club Rapid Rating Open 2025

GM Abhimanyu Puranik and FM Jeet Jain scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at 3rd Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club Rapid Rating Open 2025. Abhimanyu won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Jeet had to settle for second place. GM Srinath Narayanan scored sole 8/9 to finish third. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by ChessBase India and Phoenix Marketcity, Mumbai at Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 5th April 2025. 450+ players take part

Top seed of the tournament, GM Abhimanyu Puranik and FM Jeet Jain were the coleaders 7.5/8, going into the final round. Eight players were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh lost to Abhimanyu and the latter became champion. Jeet defeated FM Anirudhha Potawad to secure second place. GM Srinath Naraynan won against FM Sauravh Khherdekar to finish third.

Every edition of this tournament has been won by different GMs - Aditya Mittal won the inaugural edition, Srinath Narayanan won the second one and now Abhimanyu Puranik became the champion in the third.

The tournament was organized to mark the occasion of ChessBase India Saturday Chess Club at Phoenix Marketcity Mall completing its third year. The club has more than 1000 registered members and has held 28 monthly tournaments so far.

A total of 451 players including two GMs, six IMs and a WIM took part from all over the country and one from Zambia. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by ChessBase India and Phoenix Marketcity, Mumbai at Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 5th April 2025. The time control of the event was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
