Kaustuv Kundu dominates 18th G H Raisoni Memorial Rating Open 2025

IM Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 10.5/11 to win 18th G H Raisoni Memorial Rating Open 2025. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the rest. FM Arun Kataria and Shaunak Badole scored 9/10 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the entire Nagpur Chess Festival was ₹451000. The top three prizes were ₹51000 + trophy, ₹31000 and ₹26000 each. The six-day eleven round Rating Open tournament was organized by G H Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation & Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at G H Raisoni Institute of Engineering & Technology in Nagpur, Maharashtra from 8th to 13th June 2025. This is Kaustuv's second rating tournament triumph of the year. Photo: Bhushan Shriwas

IM Kaustuv Kundu was the sole leader 9.5/10 heading into the final round. FM Arun Kataria is the only player trailing him by a half point at 9/10. Sahejveer Singh Maras lost to Kaustuv and the latter became champion. Shaunak got the better of Arun who finished second and Shaunak was placed third. Arpita Patankar is the sole female to make a top ten finish. She scored 8.5/11 to claim seventh place.

IM Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 10.5/11, finished a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the field and gained 7.7 Elo rating points

A total of 252 players including an IM took part from various parts of India. The six-day eleven round Rating Open tournament was organized by G H Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation & Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at G H Raisoni Institute of Engineering & Technology in Nagpur, Maharashtra from 8th to 13th June 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
