S Rohith Krishna on the verge of winning 2nd Maharashtra GM Open 2023

by Shahid Ahmed - 08/06/2023

IM S Rohith Krishna registered his fourth win in-a-row in the penultimate round of 2nd Maharashtra GM Open 2023. What seemed like an opening trap from the outside, was actually unfolding in front of everyone's eyes, just like the players. Rohith defeated IM Milosz Szpar to increase his lead to a full point heading into the final round. He is now at 8.5/10. IM Viani Antonio Dcunha, GM Aleksej Aleksandrov and GM Laxman R R are the only three players at 7.5/10 each. Rohith needs a draw against Aleksej in the final round to become a clear champion. Laxman and Viani have an outside chance of winning the event too, if Aleksej manages to beat Rohith. Round 11 starts tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. IST. Photos: Shahid Ahmed
