Chandar Raju wins 1st SPIT Rapid Rating Open 2024

Chandar Raju and FM Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at 1st SPIT Rapid Rating Open 2024. Chandar became champion due to better tie-breaks, Aakash secured second place. The penultimate round battle between them ended in a draw. Arvind Iyer scored sole 8/9 to finish third. He also remained undefeated. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹10000 and ₹8000 each. The one-day nine-round Swiss league rating tournament was organized by SPIT Sports Committee at Sardar Patel Institute of Technology in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 17th November. This is Chandar's first tournament triumph of the year.

Top two score 8.5/9

FM Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi and Chandar Raju were the coleaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Aakash defeated FM Kshatriya Nitin Vekhande and FM Anirudhha Potawad lost to Chandar. Chandar and Aakash not only had the same score 8.5/9, but their TB1 was also same. Chandar had a higher TB2 score. Thus he became champion, Aakash second. Arvind Iyer won against Sudarshan Malga to finish third. 12-year-old Mysha Perwez scored an impressive 7.5/9 to finish fifth. She is the only female finisher among the top ten.

Chandar Raju scored an unbeaten 8.5/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 56 Elo rating points

A total of 477 players including an IM took part from all over India and one each from France and USA took part. The tournament was organized by SPIT Sports Committee on 17th November 2024 at Sardar Patel Institute of Technology in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The nine-round Swiss league tournament had a time control of 15 minutes + 3 seconds increment from move no.1.
