Diptayan Ghosh dominates 3rd Dombivli Kalyan Rapid Rating Open 2022
GM Diptayan Ghosh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd Dombivli Kalyan Rapid Rating Open 2022. Last year also Diptayan won the same event with an exact same score and once again he finished a half point ahead of the field. Seven players scored 8/9 each. Ankur Mahesh Gokhale and Arpan Das were adjudged second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000 and 97 trophies. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. Diptayan wins for a second year in-a-row
GM Diptayan Ghosh played few tournaments this year. Out of them, this is his fourth podium finish and first triumph of the year. He secured second place at 20th Splimbergo Masters, 3rd at 1st Bella Italia Masters and 2nd at HSNC University Mumbai Rapid Open. The last rating tournament, Diptayan won was the 2nd edition of this very event last year on 19th December 2021. 14-year-old Arvind Iyer scored 8/9 to finish fourth. 13-year-old Paras Dilip Bhoir made 7.5/9 to be placed ninth.

Four players were at 7.5/8 heading into the final round. GM Diptayan Ghosh defeated Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi on the top board. Arpan Das drew with Ankur Mahesh Gokhale to secure third and second place respectively.













The tournament was inaugurated by Mrs. Dipali Mhaiskar, Industrialist IRB, Dr. Deepak Vaze and Dr. Pratap Pansare, Tournament Director.





IA Swapnil Bansod, Dr Deepak Vaze and Dr Pratap Pansare were present at the Closing Ceremony. The tournament was managed by KTBS - Kalyan Taluka Buddhibal Sanstha. Mr. Mohit Ladhe and Saharsha Soman are the founder members of KTBS.

A total of 686 players including 2 GMs took part from various parts of India and three from USA. The one-day nine-round Swiss league Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Anant Vaze Sangeet, Kala and Krida Pratishthan & Aryan Institute of Chess Excellence. It took place at Navrang Banquets in Kalyan, Maharashtra on 13th November 2022. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
