Arnav Mahesh Koli dominates 1st SVIS Rating Open 2024

Arnav Mahesh Koli scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st SVIS Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Sharsha Backer scored sole 8/9. He also remained undefeated and secured second place. Om Gada finished third scoring 7.5/9. The total prize fund was ₹501000. The top three prizes were ₹51000, ₹31000 and ₹21000 along with a trophy each. The six-day rating open tournament was organized by Ashtavinayak Group and ChessKraft Academy at Swami Vivekanand International School, Kandivali in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 5th to 10th November 2024. No tie-breaks needed for top three

13-year-old Arnav Mahesh Koli was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Sharsha Backer and Rupesh Bhogal were the only two players trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Aditya Shardul Kadam lost to Arnav and the latter became a clear champion. Sharsha defeated Rupesh to finish sole second. Om Gada won against Aayush Kabra to secure third place. WCM Kriti Mayur Patel is the sole female finisher among top ten. She scored 7/9 to finish seventh.

The chief guest, FM Pankaj Joshi, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of fostering chess among young talents. Mr. Ambuj Jhunjhunwala, representing the SVIS Group, appreciated the organizers' efforts in promoting the sport.

A total of 257 players took part from various parts of the country and one from Netherlands in this six-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Ashtavinayak Group & ChessKraft Academy at Swami Vivekanand International School, Kandivali in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 5th to 10th November 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
