Sai Agni Jeevitesh dominates 1st Check N Mate Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh J scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Check N Mate Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Three players - GM Laxman R R, FM Ojas Kulkarni and IM Avinash Ramesh scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Only Sai and Ojas remained undefeated among the podium finishers. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. Sai Agni wins both Rapid Rating and Blitz Open tournaments

Augustin A, IM Sammed Shete and IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh were the leaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Sai defeated Augustin to become a clear champion. GM Laxman R R won against Sammed to finish second. FM Ojas Kulkarni scored a full point against Srihari K R to be placed third. A day before winning this, Sai won the Blitz Open scoring 6.5/7. Sammed, Laxman and Ojas also scored the same. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund for the Blitz Open tournament was ₹35000. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹3500 and ₹3000 each.

A total of 532 players including a GM and four IMs took part from all over the country and one from USA in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Check N Mate at Linden Montessori in Bangalore, Karnataka on 22nd September 2024. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
