Augustin A victorious at DKCA Rating Open 2023

Augustin A scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win DKCA Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Six players - Lokesh N, Indrajeet Mahindrakar, Aditya Savalkar, Sushanth Vaman Shetty, Swarnamala B and Rahul K scored 7.5/9 each. Lokesh and Indrajeet secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Augustin defeated the eventual second runner-up, Indrajeet in the seventh round. He won the tournament with a victory over the sole IM taking part in the event - Ramnathan Balasubramaniam. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. This is Augustin's seventh overall tournament triumph of the year. Augustin A, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Lokesh N were in a three-way lead 7/8 heading into the final round. Augustin defeated Ramnathan, Lokesh drew against the top seed, FM Gahan M G. Sai Sarthak Karanam Naga lost to Indrajeet Mahindrakar. Augustin became a clear champion, Lokesh second and Indrajeet third.

A total of 352 players including an IM took part from various places all over the country in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Dakshina Kannada Chess Association, Mangalore at Townhall Hall in Mangalore, Karnataka from 17th to 21st October 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
