Laxman R R wins 3rd BUDCA Rapid Rating Open 2024

GM Laxman R R, Lokesh N and IM Ajay Karthikeyan scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 3rd BUDCA Rapid Rating Open 2024. Laxman won the tournament due to better tie-break scores, Lokesh and Ajay secured second and third place respectively. The top three finishers did not face each other. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹29000 + trophy, ₹25000 + trophy and ₹20000 each. The two-day nine-round Swiss league rating tournament was organized by Bengaluru Urban District Chess Association at Nexus Koramangala Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 23rd and 24th November. Pranav Anand wins Blitz Open

GM Laxman R R was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round. He drew with FM Ojas Kulkarni to become the champion. Lokesh N defeated Peter Anand A to secure second place. Siddhanth Poonja lost to IM Ajay Karthikeyan and the latter finished third. Lokesh is the sole non GM/IM finisher among the top five.

GM Laxman R R scored an unbeaten 8/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 8.4 Elo rating points

IM Hari Madhavan N B was the sole leader 7.5/8, going into the last round. GM Pranav Anand won against Hari to become the champion. IM Nitin S scored a full point over IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh J to finish second. FM Apoorv Kamble lost to GM Laxman R R and the latter finished third.

A total of 402 players including a GM and seven IMs took part from all over India, two from Malaysia, one from Scotland and four from the USA took part. The two-day tournament was organized by Bengaluru Urban District Chess Association on 23rd and 24th November 2024 at Nexus Koramangala Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The nine-round Swiss league tournament had a time control of 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
