Lokesh triumphs at Tal Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023 with a 100% score 9/9

Second seeded Lokesh N scored a perfect 9/9 to win Tal Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Sudarshan Bhat, Sathvik Adiga, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Augustin A scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Lokesh defeated both eventual runners-up - Sudarshan and Sathvik in the seventh and sixth round respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹16000 + trophy, ₹15000 and ₹14000 each. This was Lokesh's first individual tournament triumph of the year. Lokesh's second tournament triumph of the year

Second seeded Lokesh N went into the final round with a perfect 8/8. Umashankar A was the sole player trailing him by a half point at 7.5/8. Lokesh defeated Umashankar to become a clear champion. Charith Bhat lost to Sudarshan Bhat and Sathvik Adiga won against Biswajit Nayak. Thus, Sudarshan secured and Sathvik third.

The tournament hall at Virginia Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka

A total of 454 players including an IM took part from various places of India, one from Canada, England, Scotland, Singapore and USA each in this two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Innovators Chess Academy at Virginia Mall in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 18th and 19th November 2023. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
