Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi wins SDM University Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024

Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi and IM-elect FM Niranjan Navalgund scored an unbeaten 8/9 at SDM University Cup Rapid Rating Open 2024. Aakash won the tournament on tie-breaks, Niranjan was placed second. Five players - IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh, Balkishan A, Abhishek I Ganiger, Prashanth J Naik and Abhishek Patil scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Aakash drew with both other podium finishers. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by SDM University at SDM Dental College on 2nd October 2024. Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi and FM Niranjan Navalgund were the coleaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round. They drew their final round game against each other. Aakash became champion, Niranjan second. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh defeated Sudarshan Bhat to finish third.

Aakash Shardchandra Dalvi scored an unbeaten 8/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 21.4 Elo rating points

A total of 276 players including two IMs took part from all over the country and one from USA in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by SDM University at SDM Dental College in Dharwad, Karnataka on 2nd October 2024. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
