Vijay Shreeram P clinches 2nd SSS Rating Open 2023

Vijay Shreeram P scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 2nd SSS Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players - Selvamurugun B, Saravanan, Arul Prakash N, Sa Kannan and CM Mrithyunjay Mahadevan scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400000. Top three prizes were ₹25001, ₹15000 and ₹12500 each respectively. The tournament was held between 29th May and 2nd June 2023 at Chendhuran College of Engineering and Technology, Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu. It was organized by Sri Sai Saravanaa Academy. Teenagers dominate top 10

Four players - Selvamurugan B, Vijay Shreeram P, Kavin Oviyan R and Sa Kannan were at 7/8 each heading into the final round. Selvamurugan drew against Kannan. Vijay defeated Kavin. Vijay and Kavin both suffered a loss each before their final round battle. Thus, Vijay became a clear champion, Selvamurugan and Saravanaa secured second and third place each respectively.

The prizes were distributed by the Law Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. Ragupathy, with Chief Arbiter IA Dhenagaran B, Tournament Director and Deputy Chief Arbiter FA Angappan A, Tournament Coordinator IA VL Anandh Babu (44th Chess Olympiad live in-charge) and SSS Academy Secretary - Adaikkalavan.

A total of 399 players took part from various states across the country and two from the USA in this five-day nine round Swiss-league Rating tournament which was organized by Sri Sai Saravanaa Academy, Pudukkotai at Chendhuran College of Engineering and Technology in Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu from 29th May to 2nd June 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
