Ilamparthi decimates Singh's Gambit Rating Open 2024

IM Ilamparthi A R scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win Singh's Gambit Rating Open 2024. Ilamparthi won the tournament in a week after becoming the new National Sub-Junior Open champion. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four players - IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, IM Praveen Kumar C, GM Laxman R R and Vignesh B scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹800000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹75000 and ₹60000 along with a trophy each. The four-day eight-round rating tournament was organized by Guru Nanak College in association with Mount Chess Academy at Guru Nanak Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 14th to 17th November 2024. Ilamparthi wins his second tournament in a week

IM Ilamparthi A R made a blazing start scoring 7/7. IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam was the only player trailing by a half point 6.5/7. Ilamparthi needed a draw to become a clear champion, so he drew, Balasubramaniam secured second place. Vakeesh S lost to IM Praveen Kumar C. Praveen finished third. The reigning National Amateur Below 2300 Women champion, Shanmathi Sree S became the sole female player to make a top ten finish. She scored 6.5/8 to be placed tenth.

IM Ilamparthi A R scored an unbeaten 7.5/8, finished a half point ahead of the field and gained 1.4 Elo rating points

A total of 348 players took part from various parts of the country in this four-day eight round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Guru Nanak College (Autonomous) in association with Mount Chess Academy at Guru Nanak Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 14th to 17th November 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
