Prasannaa S prevails at 10th Sri M S Venkataraman Memorial Rating Open 2025

FM Prasannaa S scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 10th Sri M S Venkataraman Memorial Rating Open 2025. Prasannaa finished a half point ahead of the rest. Five players - IM Praveen Kumar C, Ajjjesh J R, IM Avinash Ramesh, FM M Vinoth Kumar and Barath L scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Prasannaa defeated the eventual runner-up, Praveen in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹60000 + trophy, ₹50000 and ₹40000 each. The four-day eight-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Mount Chess Academy at New Prince Shri Bhavani College of Engineering and Technology in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 27th to 30th September 2025. Prasannaa's fourth tournament triumph of the year

FM Prasannaa S made a perfect start by winning seven games consecutively. Ajjesh J R and Sivan S Roshan were trailing by a half point at 6.5/7 each. Ajjesh drew against Prasannaa in the final round. The latter became the champion, the former third. IM Praveen Kumar C defeated Rahul Bharadwaj B to secure second place. Prasannaa went on to win another rating tournament in five more days after the conclusion of this event. It will be mentioned in detail in a separate report.

Here are a couple of games annotated by the runner-up, IM Praveen Kumar C.

A total of 439 players including four IMs took part from all over the country, one from Canada, Egypt, Germany, Malaysia and USA, two from Sri Lanka. The four-day eight-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Mount Chess Academy at New Prince Shri Bhavani College of Engineering and Technology in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 27th to 30th September 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
