Pranav Ganesh Prabhu and Nivedita V C are 36th Tamil Nadu State Under-13 Champions 2024

Pranav Ganesh Prabhu scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 36th Tamil Nadu State Under-13 Open Rating 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Four players - Tanish Ragavan S, Aarav A, Adharsh K and Pranav Sai Ram R S scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to fifth place according to tie-breaks. In the Girls event, Nivedita V C scored a perfect 9/9 to become the champion. She finished a full point ahead of the competition. Shanmathi Sree S scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Kaarthika Gadde and R Chardudharshini scored 7.5/9 each to be placed third and fourth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹50000, ₹25000 in Open and ₹25000 in Women. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹4000 and ₹3500 along with a trophy each respectively. Nivedita clinches the championship in Girls with a perfect score 9/9

Tamil Nadu State Under-13 Championship is one of the prestigious State Championship in Tamil Nadu and with a history of notable winners like - Laxman R R, Arun Prasad, Shyam Sundar, Priyadharsan, Karthikeyan Murali, G Akash, and Vaishali, it showcases the strength of chess culture in Tamil Nadu. Such tournaments not only provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills but also serve as a breeding ground for future grandmasters and international masters. It must be quite an exciting event to follow, with the potential to witness future stars in the making.

Former Governor, Rotarian - Balaji and Guest of Honour - Mr. Humayun Kabir, Chairman of Annai College of Engineering & Technology, were present and distributed the prizes to the players along with the presence of Siva I Saravanan, President, TDCA, Silambarasan, Secretary, TDCA, Senthilkumaran Palanivelu, Joint Secretary, TNSCA, Chief Arbiter - IA Sathiesh GG and other members of TDCA.

Champion in Open - Pranav Ganesh Prabhu 8/9

Pranav Ganesh Prabhu scored 8/9 sounds like an impressive player! It's no small feat to dominate a tournament without any losses, and then clinch a spot in the National Under-13 by securing a victory in the final round. It must have been quite a thrilling match against Mridav of Chennai.

Runner-up - Tanish Ragavan 7.5/9

Tanish Ragavan of Chennai became runner-up based on a better tie-break score than the other four players with the same 7.5 points out of 9 rounds.

Second Runner-up - Aarav A 7.5/9

The tournament top seed - Aarav A scored 7.5 points and secured third place based on the tie-break score.

Champion in Girls - Nivedita V C 9/9

Nivedita V C must be incredibly talented and dedicated to achieve a perfect score of 9/9 and winning her State Under-13 Girls Championship title for the second year in-a-row.

Runner-up - Shanmathi Sree S 8/9

Shanmathi Sree of Chennai was the top seed in the Girls category. She secured second spot with 8 points.

Second runner-up - Kaarthika Gadde 7.5/9

Kaarthika Gadde of Tiruvallur secured third place with 7.5 points having better tie-break than Charudharshini of Madurai.

 

It sounds like an exciting tournament! With 550 entries, it was quite competitive. Aarav from Chennai and Shanmathi Sree, also from Chennai, must have demonstrated remarkable skills to emerge as the top seeds in their respective categories.

The tournament was well organized by Thanjavur District Chess Association. More than the top 80 boards in both categories were conducted in AC hall, also interestingly all players and parents more than 1000 members enjoyed the free lunch provided on all five days.

A total of 364 players took part in the Open category from various districts of Tamil Nadu. The five-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Thanjavur District Chess Association at Annai College of Engineering & Technology in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 12th May 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
