Harsh Suresh wins Muralimohan Memorial 2nd Capa Chess Academy Rapid Rating Open 2023

FM Harsh Suresh and CM Rajarishi Karthi scored 8/9 each at Muralimohan Memorial 2nd Capa Chess Academy Rapid Rating Open 2023. Harsh edged past Rajarishi on tie-breaks to become the champion. Rajarishi was placed second. Six players - Kunal M, GM Vishnu Prasanna, Arjun C Krishnamachari, Sailesh R, John Veny Akkarakaran and IM Praveen Kumar C scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to eighth respectively. Only Rajarishi remained undefeated among the top three. Kunal defeated Harsh in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the event was ₹200000. Kunal gets the better of the champion

Kunal was the sole leader 7.5/8 heading into the final round. Five players - FM Harsh Suresh, CM Rajarishi Karthi, Arjun C Krishnamachari, CM John Veny Akkarakaran and IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam were in pursuit at 7/8 each. Rajarishi defeated Kunal and Harsh won against IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam. Thus, Harsh won the tournament 8/9, Rajarishi second 8/9 and Kunal third 7.5/9.

At the Prize distribution function, GM Sundararajan Kidambi was the Chief Guest. Mrs. Saradha Muralimohan and Ashiya Sultana, President Capa Chess Academy were the guests and distributed the prizes.

A total of 365 players including a GM and two IMs took part from various states across the country, one from Bangladesh and two from USA in this two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Capa Chess Academy at Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 15th and 16th July 2023. The time control of the event was 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
