Pranesh M wins 32nd Caen Open 2023, Nubairshah third
GM Pranesh M, IM Vladyslav Larkin (UKR) and IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh scored an unbeaten 6/7 each at 32nd Caen Open A 2023. Pranesh became champion due to better tie-breaks, Larkin second and Nubairshah third. Pranesh drew against Larkin and Nubairshah in fifth and seventh round respectively. Pranesh and Nubairshah were the only two Indians taking part in this event. The total prize fund was €3800. The top three prizes were €1000 + trophy, €600 and €400 each respectively. This is Pranesh's fourth tournament triumph of the year after starting 2023 by becoming India's 79th Grandmaster and winning Rilton Cup 2022-23. Pranesh and Nubairshah remain undefeated
GM Pranesh M, IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh and IM Vladyslav Larkin (UKR) were the coleaders 5.5/6 heading into the last round. Nubairshah drew against Pranesh, Larkin also shared the point against GM Oleg Korneev (ESP). Thus, Pranesh became champion, Larkin second and Nubairshah third.
A total of 122 players including three GMs and five IMs took part in Open A category from seven countries across the world in this tournament. The four-day seven-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament was organized by Caen Alekhine Chess Club at Institut Lemonnier in Caen, Normandy, France from 29th October to 1st November 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move starting from move no.1.
