Aswath S clear first at 10th Noisiel Open 2025, Muthaiah third

IM Aswath S scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 10th Noisiel Open A (>2200) 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. Three players - GM Sergey A Fedorchuk (UKR), IM Muthaiah Al and FM Mohamed Anees M scored 6.5/9 each. They secured second to fourth place according to tie-breaks. Aswath drew both runners-up, Fedorchuk and Muthaiah in Round 4 and 6 respectively. The total prize fund in Open A was €5000. Top three prizes were €1500, €1100 and €800 each. Apart from the three mentioned earlier, two more Indians made a top ten finish. IM Harshavardhan G B and IM Senthil Maran K scored 6/9 each to be placed at sixth and eighth respectively. Five Indians in top ten

IM Aswath S was the sole leader 7/8, heading into the final round. Three players - FM Mohamed Anees M, GM Sergey A Fedorchuk (UKR) and IM Muthaiah Al were trailing by a full point at 6/8. A draw was enough for Aswath to become a clear champion and that's what he did against his fellow countryman, Anees. Fedorchuk drew with IM Harshavardhan G B to secure second place. Muthaiah also shared the point with IM Piotr Nguyen (POL) to finish third. The tenth edition witnessed a combined total participation of - 240 players, 79 in Open A (>2000), 125 in Open B (<2000) and 36 in Open C (<2000).

IM Aswath S (2466) correctly found 42.Nxe6! to gain another pawn Rxh5 43.Nxf8 Bxf8 44.Rxf7 and White went on to convert his advantage well. GM Michael Richter (GER, 2402) had to resign when the checkmate threat with rook, bishop and king became unstoppable.

A total of 79 players including 3 GMs and 8 IMs took part from 9 countries across the world. The five-day nine round Rating Open A (>2000) tournament was organized by M Oupindrin at Multipurpose and Sports Hall of the Ferme in Noisiel, France from 12th to 16th April 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
