Tbilisi GP Round 7: Vaishali ends her losing streak, draws with Anna Muzychuk

GM R Vaishali ended her losing streak by sharing the point with the highest rated player at FIDE Tbilisi GP 2024, GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) in Round 7. It was a well contested draw where neither player got any real opportunity. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) scored the sole win of the round against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI). The former women's world champion made an incorrect decision in a rook and knight endgame. It cost her dearly. Bibisara has emerged sole leader 4.5/7. She is followed by four players - GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR), GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO), IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL) and IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE) at 4/7 each. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ, 2470) defeated GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI, 2488) twice in Classical rated games last year. Both of them occurred in the GP. This time also, she repeated the same result.

Position after 37.g4

White needed to play 37...f5 right away. Instead, she went 37...Nb4? 38.h5+ Kf6 39.Nc5 Rxa2 40.Ne4+ Ke5 41.Rxa2 Nxa2 42.Ke3 Nb4 43.f4+ Kd5 44.Nf6+ and Black won the knight endgame in another ten moves.
