by Shahid Ahmed - 11/05/2025

GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) drew with GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) to maintain her sole lead at FIDE Grosslobming GP in Austria. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) drew with GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR). Dzagnidze, Jiner and Vaishali are now a full point behind the sole leader, Anna at 3/5 each. IM Olga Badelka (AUT) lost to IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO). IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) scored her first win of the event against former Women's World Champion, GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI). Jiner - Vaishali: 1-0

GM R Vaishali (2475) has never won a Classical rated game against GM Jiner Zhu (CHN, 2541). Vaishali lost two and drew the remaining two. Her recent loss was last month at Pune GP. She suffered her third loss against the Chinese GM.

Position after 30.f5

The above queen and rook major piece ending is quite unpleasant for Black. The counter-intuitive 30...gxf5 is the only way for Black to stay in the fight. On the other hand 30...Qc2?? gives White a decisive advantage 31.Qxc2 Rxc2 32.f6+- and it was just a matter of time before White won the game.
