Shyam Sundar M wins Prague International Chess Festival 2024 Rapid Open, Saravana Krishnan third

GM Shyam Sundar M and FM Jachym Nemek (CZE) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 each at Prague International Chess Festival 2024 H Rapid Open. Shyam won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Jachym had to settle for second place. Five players - IM P Saravana Krishnan, FM Nikoloz Chkhaidze (GEO), GM Stepan Zilka (CZE), FM Akaki Sharashenidze (CZE) and Levente Miszler (HUN) scored 6/7 each. They were placed third to seventh according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were 3000, 2000 and 1500 each respectively. Shyam's first rating tournament triumph of the year

GM Shyam Sundar M is mostly busy training various upcoming Indian talents. Thus he is unable to get time to play tournaments himself. When he does, he tends to do well in them.

FM Jachym Nemec (CZE) was the sole leader 6/6 going into the final round. He was paired against IM P Saravana Krishnan 5.5/6 in Round 7. GM Shyam Sundar M was also at 5.5/6. He was up against FM Tomas Vojta (CZE) 5/6 in the last round.

Eventually Saravana drew against Jachym

Saravana's draw ensured Shyam winning the tournament, Jachym securing the second place according to tie-breaks and Saravana himself grab the third place.

A total of 179 players including 2 GMs, 3 IMs and a WGM took part from 23 countries all over the world in this one-day seven round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Novoborsky Chess Club, z.s. at Don Giovanni Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic on 2nd March 2024. The time control of the event was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
