Three Indians in World Top ten for the first time ever
For the first time in the history of Indian chess, three Indians are in World Top ten, in FIDE Rating list July 2024. Arjun Erigaisi is World no.4, D Gukesh World no.7 and R Praggnanandhaa World no.8. Aravindh Chithambaram continues his rise to the top as he gained 18.5 Elo rating points to become India no.6 and World no.29. Praggnanandhaa increased his rating by 10 points to enter into World top ten for the first time. Currently, there are four Indians in top 11, five in top 22, six in top 29, seven in top 37 and eight in top 46. Both Arjun and Aravindh are two of the biggest gainers of this list in the Open at the top. Among the Women, there are three Indians in top 14 and four in top 20. GM Harika Dronavalli reclaimed her India no. 2 spot. IM Divya Deshmukh moved to World no.20 among Women after winning FIDE World Junior Girls 2024 in a dominating fashion. Arjun Erigaisi, D Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa in World Top 10, Aravindh World no.29
The top Indian gainers in July FIDE Rating list are - Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa and Aravindh Chithambaram. Arjun Erigaisi moved up from World no.8 to 4, Praggnanandhaa scaled from World no.13 to 8 and Aravindh advanced from World no.44 to 29. IM Divya Deshmukh moved from World no. 24 to 20 among Women.

Three Indian women are in top 14 and four in top 20. GM Harika Dronavalli gained 1.5 Elo rating points to regain her India no.2 spot. IM Divya Deshmukh won FIDE World Junior Girls Championship 2024. Her stellar performance there moved her from 24 to 20th in the rank.IM Bhakti Kulkarni gained 5.6 Elo rating points to advance to 80th place from 88th. Currently, there are ten Indians among top 100 women.
