Boris Savchenko wins 2nd Indore GM Open 2024, Ratnakaran third

GM Boris Savchenko scored 8.5/10 to win 2nd Indore GM Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Alexei Fedorov scored 8/10 to secure second place. IM Ratnakaran K, IM Neelash Saha and FM Goutham Krishna H made 7.5/10 each. They were placed third, fourth and fifth according to tie-breaks. Goutham earned his final IM-norm at this event. He just needs to fulfil the rating requirements to become India's next International Master. IM Ameya Audi, Saurabh Anand and Utkal Ranjan Sahoo are the remaining three Indians to make a top ten finish. They scored 7/10 each and were placed seventh, ninth and tenth respectively. Goutham Krishna H scores his final IM-norm

GM Alexei Fedorov and GM Boris Savchenko were the coleaders 7.5/9, heading into the final round. Boris defeated GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE) and Alexei was held to a draw by FM Goutham Krishna H. IM Ratnakaran K won against GM Igor Glek (BEL). Savchenko became a clear champion, Alexei second and Ratnakaran third. Goutham is the youngest top ten finisher of the event. His incredible performance earned him a fifth place finish, his final IM-norm and 44 Elo rating points. GM Deepan Chakravarthy became the only player to beat the eventual champion, Savchenko. The total prize fund was ₹2100000 in GM Open. The top three prizes were ₹325000, ₹250000 and ₹175000 along with a trophy each.
