Play No-Castling Chess in Sparkassen Online Open Dortmund 2021
Early this year we announced that Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik will play No-Castling Chess in a four-game match. If you want to test yourself in the same variant of chess against the world but wondering about all travel restrictions amidst the pandemic situation, worry not. The 48th edition of Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2021 will feature an online open tournament of No-Castling Chess which can be participated from the comfort of your home. The best part is, the overall winner of this online event will earn an entry into the 49th International Dortmund Chess Days Open-A along with accommodation and breakfast in the players' hotel. Sparkassen Chess Trophy Online Open 2021: 10th - 17th July
"We are pleased to give the international chess community an opportunity to try out the chess variant No Castling Chess within the framework of the Dortmunder Sparkassen Online Open. Just like the NC World Masters between Vladimir Kramnik and Viswanathan Anand, the Open will take place in this format, so we expect trend-setting insights for the chess world and give everyone the chance to try it out here. Attractive prizes await the winners of the tournaments," says tournament director Andreas Jagodzinsky.

Venue
Format and Time Control
• No-castling chess is played. This means that the games start from the known basic position. However, castling is not a legal move. Otherwise, the normal rules apply.
• Three preliminary tournaments are played, from which the first eight players qualify for the final.
• In each of the preliminary tournaments and in the final, 7 rounds of Swiss system will be played.
• In the final, all players are obliged to participate in a zoom video session with the arbiter during the games.
• The time limit in all games is 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment from move 1, so the total playing time per tournament is approximately four hours. There are two minutes between the last game of a round and the start of the next round.
Prizes
• The overall winner will be invited to participate in the 49th International Dortmund Chess Days in the A-Open and will receive accommodation and breakfast in the players' hotel for the duration of the tournament.
• The players in second and third place may take part in the 49th International Dortmund Chess Days free of charge.
• The players in the first three places in the preliminary round tournaments will receive a book signed by Vladimir Kramnik "Wladimir Kramnik - Aus dem Leben eines Schachgenies".
Registration
• By stating first name, surname, nationality, club, year of birth, the admission to the Lichess team is applied for. This is possible until one hour before the start of the respective preliminary tournament.
• Players who qualify for the final must contact the tournament management by email and will receive further information and the password for the final tournament.
