Norway Chess Women 2024 R2: Vaishali traps Humpy's queen at the center of the board
R Vaishali scored her first Classical win over Koneru Humpy in Norway Chess Women 2024 Round 2. Humpy had a slight edge in the middlegame. However, a couple of incorrect pawn pushes allowed her opponent to get back in the game. A rook swing resulted in Humpy's queen getting trapped at the center of the board. Thus, Vaishali scored the first three points of the event, combining both Open and Women. Tingjie Lei (CHN) and Wenjun Ju (CHN) won Armageddon games against Pia Cramling (SWE) and Anna Muzychuk (UKR). Both Wenjun and Tingjie are trailing Vaishali by a full point at 3/6 each. Vaishali gains an early sole lead
Vaishali - Humpy: 3-0
R Vaishali (2489) faced Koneru Humpy (2545) only once earlier in a Classical rated game. She lost that game at FIDE Women's Candidates 2024 last month. Humpy was one of the two players Vaishali could not beat at that event. It was time to change that. Despite having a slight edge in the position, Humpy made a couple of incorrect pawn pushes on the queenside.
First 33...c6 and then after few moves 41...b6? turned things completely in White's favor. 42.axb6 Rxb6 43.Ra1 Rb8 44.Ra7 Rf1 45.Rd7 trapped Black's queen at the center of the board.
Tingjie - Pia: 1.5-1
Tingjie Lei (CHN, 2548) and Pia Cramling (SWE, 2449) faced each other for the first time in a Classical rated game. It ended in a well-contested draw. Tingjie won the Armageddon after her opponent made a tactical error.
Wenjun - Anna: 1.5-1
Wenjun Ju (CHN, 2559) and Anna Muzychuk (UKR, 2505) faced each other in a Classical rated game for the first time in over four years. Their last battle at Lausanne Women's GP ended in a draw in March 2020. This time also the Classical game ended in a solid draw. Anna suffered her second consecutive loss in Armageddon.

Format
6 players will take part in the Tournament.
The Tournament is a double-round event with Armageddon.
The Tournament consists of 10 rounds.
Time Control
Each player will have 120 minutes on the clock with an increment of 10 seconds starting from move 41. The time control for the Armageddon game: white has 10 minutes and black has 7 minutes with an increment for both players of 1 second per move, starting from move 41.
Draw by Mutual Agreement
Players are not allowed to agree to a draw until at least 30 moves have been made by each player. This rule does not apply to Armageddon games.
Armageddon
If the classical game is drawn, an Armageddon game will be played. It shall start within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the classical game. The player with White pieces will continue with White in Armageddon. If the Armageddon game is drawn, black will win.

Players will get the following points per round:
Win in the classical game: 3 points
Loss in the classical game: 0 points
Draw in the classical game & win Armageddon: 1½ points
Draw in the classical game & loss Armageddon: 1 point
Schedule
From 27th May to 7th June, every day game starts at 5 p.m. local time and 8:30 p.m. IST. Rest days are on Friday 31st May and Wednesday 5th June.

Prize Money The total prize fund of the Tournament is 1690000 NOK. Distribution of Prize money occurs as followed:
1st - NOK 700000
2nd - NOK 350000
3rd - NOK 200000
4th - NOK 170000
5th - NOK 150000
6th - NOK 120000
