Khumukcham Sanjoy Singh dominates 7th Kurukshetra Rating Open 2022
Second seeded Khumukcham Sanjoy Singh scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to win 7th Kurukshetra Rating Open 2022. Three players - Soram Rahul Singh, Bhogen R K Singh and the top seed Y Dhanabir Singh scored 8/10 each. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. Sanjoy defeated Soram and drew with Bhogen. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹280000. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹25000 and ₹18000 along with a trophy each. This is Sanjoy's first-ever tournament triumph. He has played only seven rating tournaments in his career before this victory. He finished second at the last event he played in 2021 at Nagaon. 53-year-old Bhogen R K Singh impresses
Only three players remained undefeated among the top ten finishers. The champion, Khumukcham Sanjoy Singh, second runner-up Bhogen R K Singh and fifth place finisher Brijit Chetia. Bhogen's performance is really impressive considering, he is the only veteran at the age of 53 years, to make a top ten finish. 11-year-old Abhirup Saikia is the youngest among the top ten finishers. He scored 7.5/10 to secure tenth place.
A total of 164 players took part from various states across the country. The six-day ten-round Swiss league Rating tournament was organized by Guardians of Greater Dibrugarh Chess Players in association with DHSK College, Dibrugarh and Dibrugarh District Chess Association at DHSK College, Dibrugarh, Assam from 24th to 29th December 2022. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
