Arpan Das wins 3rd Sakatam Rating Open 2025

Arpan Das, IM Somak Palit and IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored 8.5/10 each at 3rd Sakatam Rating Open 2025. Arpan won the tournament on tie-breaks, Somak and Vikramaditya were placed second and third respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day ten round Rating Open tournament was organized by HBM Society and Northeast Chess India at Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam from 26th to 31st March 2025. This is Arpan's second rating tournament triumph of the year.

Top three score 8.5/10

Local talent, 15-year-old Abhrojyoti Nath, Arpan Das and IM Somak Palit were the three leaders 8/9, going into the final round. Arpan drew with Somak to become the champion, Somak secured second place. IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni defeated Abhrojyoti to finish third. The teenager finished fourth.

A total of 335 players including three IMs took part from various parts of India, one from Bangladesh and USA each, and seven from Sri Lanka. The five-day ten round Rating Open tournament was organized by HBM Society and Northeast Chess India at Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Guwahati, Assam from 26th to 31st March 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
