Women's Candidates 2024 R5: Four draws
GM R Vaishali made another solid draw in the fifth round of FIDE Women's Candidates 2024. It was against GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) this time. GM Koneru Humpy also had a well contested draw against GM Aleksandra Goryachkina. GM Kateryna Lagno was the only one who had a winning chance against GM Tingjie Lei (CHN). Despite launching the attack correctly, she could not follow through. Tingjie managed to defend correctly and escape with a half point. IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) continues her impressive run. A relatively quiet day after Solar Eclipse

GM Kateryna Lagno (2542) missed a win against GM Tingjie Lei (CHN, 2550).
30.Nde2 Bxh3! 31.Qxb4 now Black needed to follow through Ng4 32.f3 Ra3 33.e5 Bxe5 getting all her pieces into the attack would have made White cave. Instead, the game continued 31...Bxg4 32.Qxd6 h5 33.Qc7 b5 Black's advantage dissipated, White managed to equalize and the game ended in a draw.
Time control
The time control for each game is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
Prizes
The total prize fund is €250000. The top three prizes are €24000, €18000 and €12000. All prize money shall be divided equally among the players with the equal score after 14 rounds regardless tie-break results. In addition, each player gets €1750 euros for every half point scored.
