Take Take Take: The ultimate chess experience is just a download away

by Rasika Ratnaparkhi - 14/11/2024

Magnus Carlsen is back with another best move! He recently launched his new app: Take Take Take. It’s an interactive app that goes beyond watching or playing games. From text-based commentary to fantasy chess, from live games to post-game recaps, and from fun challenges to exclusive content, the app has many exciting features that will keep the users engaged. Check out what Magnus had to say about these amazing features, his thoughts on the upcoming World Championship match, and his surprise participation in the Tata Steel Tournament. Take Take Take: Magnus knows the right move!

Two weeks ago, Magnus Carlsen made a special appearance on ChessBase India’s livestream to talk about his new app: Take Take Take. The app started as a Fantasy chess app which slowly turned into a proper interactive app. Magnus explained that he wanted the app to be something more than a way to just watch games. Take Take Take promises that it will bring fans closer to the action in an engaging way.

One of the most exciting features of this app is the text-based commentary. It means fans would be able to understand complex analysis in a simple, easy-to-follow way. In more simple words, you can decide how much you want to dive into a game! You will see expert insights for sure but at your own pace. This will make the experience enjoyable for both newcomers and professional chess players.

Speaking of fantasy chess, you will see player stats and schedules, live games, and most importantly, you can create a list of your favorite players to follow them closely. Whether it’s Arjun, Alireza, Hikaru, or Carlsen himself… you will get a notification whenever they are playing a live game. There is a Calendar feature as well so that fans can find the list of upcoming events. This way, you can follow your favorite players and favorite tournaments with one click.

The future of chess broadcasting?

Magnus also hinted at some exclusive content. Actually, the timing for the app launch couldn’t be better. It coincides with the upcoming World Championship in Singapore. So of course, fans can expect some exclusive content about this event. One such example is the post-game recaps by Magnus himself along with Levy Rozman (GothamChess).

No surprise, the app also has some fun content like ‘Can Levy beat drunk Magnus?’ A few months back, Carlsen joked that it would take about 20 beers for Levy to have a chance to win against him. You would actually see this challenge taken seriously (of course with simulation) when Carlsen tried to play chess as if he was under the influence. After 20 beers deep, would Carlsen be able to do the deep analysis and beat Levy? Check out the video.

They wished, Magnus delivered!

Isn’t it surprising that Vidit and Anish tweeted about their desire for an app like this, without knowing that it was actually getting developed? Even Carlsen was surprised to see this coincidence. Well, this unexpected endorsement emphasized the need for an app that serves both players and fans.

This app launch is just one of the many ventures Carlsen has dived into recently. His love for the game goes beyond just playing. He has already invested in Freestyle chess which raised around $10 Million and now it would be interesting to see how players respond to this app. Magnus shared how much he values the support of his loved ones like his father, his girlfriend Ella, and many others. Ella often travels with him to tournaments to support him.

Ella is a fantastic sport and I am lucky to have such good support from her!

Magnus revealed that his decision to join the Tata Steel Chess India tournament was last-minute. He hadn’t initially planned to participate, as his schedule was typically packed. Plus, traveling to India can be a long journey. However, one fine day, he was talking with his father and realized that the tournament’s schedule fit perfectly with his travel to the World Championship in Singapore. So he quickly reached out to the organizers and asked if there is any spot left. Within an hour, his spot was finalized and Magnus was set to visit India after 2019.

The enthusiasm for chess and chess players in India is unlike any other country.

Magnus also shared his thoughts on the upcoming World Championship match with the hope of seeing some exciting showdown. According to him, Gukesh would have a strong advantage if he takes the lead early. Whereas, if the event goes without a decisive game soon, Ding would have more chances. According to him, Gukesh has shown some vulnerabilities recently but he is confident and on the contrary, Ding has the skill but lacks confidence. Magnus will be keeping a close eye on this most awaited event of the year.

Magnus Carlsen's World Championship Prediction

Let’s hope Take Take Take becomes a true game-changer for chess fans everywhere! You can download the app here:
