Swapnil Dhopade wins 1st Matrix Cup Rating Open 2023
GM Swapnil Dhopade and Harshit Pawar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 each at 1st Matrix Cup Rating Open 2023. Swapnil won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Harshit secured second place. FM Arvinder Preet Singh and Ram Prakash scored 8/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively. They also remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹551000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, 50000 and 30000 along with a trophy each respectively. WFM Supreetha Potluri became the sole woman to make a top ten finish. GM Swapnil Dhopade, Harshit Pawar and Kumar Gaurav were the three leaders heading into the final round 7.5/8. Swapnil defeated Kumar and Harshit won against IM Vishal Sareen. Thus, Swapnil and Harshit ended with the same score 8.5/9 each. They clinched the first and second place respectively.
Shubhi Gupta - 37th National Junior Girls 2023 champion, Pratitee Bordoloi - 36th National Under-11 Girls 2023 champion. Vyom Malhotra Asian School Under-9 Open 2023 champion, Sanchita Yadav National Amateur Below 1700 Women 2023 champion - all four students of Matrix Chess Academy, were felicitated by Bharat Singh Chauhan, Chairman of FIDE Advisory Board and Deputy President of Asian Chess Federation.

A total of 763 players including 2 GMs and 2 IMs took part from England, Kenya, Tajikistan, USA, Vietnam and various parts of India in this five-day nine-round Swiss league Rating tournament which was organized by Matrix Chess Academy at NDMC Barat Ghar in New Delhi from 9th to 13th October 2023. The time control for the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
