Sudhir Kumar Sinha wins Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa Memorial Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2024
Sudhir Kumar Sinha and FM Rupesh Jaiswal (NEP) scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa Memorial Mayor Cup Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2024. The seventh round battle between them ended in a draw. Suroj Maharjan scored sole 7.5/9 to secure third place. The total prize fund of the tournament was NRs. 1001000 (approx. ₹625525). The top three prizes were NRs. 200000 + trophy, 110000 and 60000 each respectively. This is Sudhir's first rating tournament triumph since June 2019. Apart from Sudhir, four more Indians made a top ten finish. Rishabh Nishad and Raghav Srivathsav V scored 7/9 each to be placed fifth and sixth. Indians claim five out of top ten
FM Rupesh Jaiswal (NEP) and Sudhir Kumar Sinha were the coleaders 7/8 heading into the final round. Vipul Subhashi lost to Rupesh and Sudhir defeated CM Krishna Thapa (NEP). Sudhir became champion and Rupesh second. Suroj Maharjan (NEP) won against CM Sajin Maharjan (NEP) to finish third. WFM Bristy Mukherjee is the highest finisher among female participants. She scored 6.5/9 to secure eleventh place.
A total of 143 players took part from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and USA. The four-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Chess Association at Hotel Butwal Crown Plaza in Butwal, Nepal from 6th to 9th April 2024. The time control of the event was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
