Pawel Sowinski wins Slovakia Open Piestany 2024, Ilamparthi third

FM Pawel Sowinski (POL) and GM Tomas Laurusas (LTU) scored an unbeaten 7/9 each at Slovaki Open Piestany 2024 in Open A (>2100). Pawel won the tournament on tie-breaks and also scored a GM-norm. Tomas secured second place. Six players - IM Ilamparthi A R, GM Shyam Sundar M, GM Anton Demchenko (SLO), GM Gergely Aczel (HUN), IM Moksh Amit Doshi and IM Filip Haring (SVK) scored 6.5/9. They were placed third to eighth respectively. The total prize fund in Open A was €10350. The top three prizes were €2200, €1500 and €900 each. Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy, FM Adarsh Tripathi and FM Senthil Maran K scored an IM-norm each. This was Senthil's final IM-norm and he also got 2411 published rating in August FIDE Rating list. Senthil Maran K becomes India's latest International Master

Slovakia Open Piešťany 2024 was another successful event for the Indian players. It has always been a great event to score norms. Four Indians finished in top nine. FM Senthil Maran K earned his final IM-norm which helped him to become an International Master. Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy and Adarsh Tripathi earned their maiden IM-norms. The total prize fund offered combining both groups were €13350. The combined total participation in Open A and B were - 193.

Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy scored an unbeaten 5.5/9, performed at 2506 to secure his maiden IM-norm and gained 93.34 Elo rating points

FM Adarsh Tripathi scored 5.5/9, performed at 2445 to earn an IM-norm and also increased his Elo rating by 28.4 points

A total of 92 players including 7 GMs, 19 IMs and 5 WGMs took part from 20 countries across the world in this nine-day nine round Open A (>2100) tournament. It was organized by Slovenska organizacna at Balnea Palace in Piešťany, Slovakia from 9th to 17th July 2024. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
