Chhattisgarh CM Trophy GM Masters R3: Chidvilash outplays Venkatesh, joins the lead

13-year-old Chidvilash Sai Surapaneni scored his hat-trick win over GM Venkatesh M R. He is now one of the seven leaders of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Trophy GM Masters 2022. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy and IM Ajay Karthikeyan are the only two other Indians among them. Srihari L capitalized on his opponent GM Duc Hoa Nguyen's (VIE) mistake. 15 players are trailing by a half point at 2.5/3 each. Arjun Tiwari and CM Ravi Kumar continue their impressive run. Close battle

FM Vedant Panesar, FM Aradhya Garg, FM Aaryan Varshney, CM Mayank Chakraborty, CM Rajesh Nayak, Harshit Pawar and Garv Rai drew with IM Koustav Chatterjee, GM Mitrabha Guha, GM Shyam Sundar M, GM Valeriy Neverov (UKR), IM Sammed Shete, IM Avinash Ramesh and WGM Srija Seshadri respectively. Chidvilash Sai Surapaneni (2000) got a better position out of the English Opening and converted his positional advantage into a win against GM Venkatesh M R (2481).

Position after 15...f6

The opening did not go well for Black. Thus, he had to play 15...f6 to keep control of the dark squares in front of his king. However, it was at the cost of blindsiding his own bishop at g7.

GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE, 2365) blundered against Srihari L (2214).

The teenager had no trouble figuring out the win 44...Qa1+ 45.Kc2 Ra2 and White resigned.

A total of 127 players including 15 GMs, 23 IMs, 3 WGMs and 11 WIMs are taking part from 14 countries across the world including India in the Masters section. The tournament is organized by Chhattisgarh Pradesh Shatranj Sangh from 19th to 28th September 2022 at Hotel Grand Imperia in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The ten-round Swiss league tournament has a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes with 30 seconds increment from move 1.
