Anwesh Upadhyaya wins 5th Marvel Rating Open 2024

Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya, GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Karan J P scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at 5th Marvel Rating Open 2024. Anwesh won the tournament on tie-breaks, Saptarshi and Karan were placed second and third respectively. Anwesh drew with the only GM taking part in this event, Saptarshi to become the champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day rating tournament was organized by Marvel Chess Academy from 29th August to 2nd September 2024 at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya, GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury and Karan J P were the three leaders 7/8 each, going into the final round. Anwesh drew with Saptarshi to become the champion, Saptarshi secured second place. Kushal O and Karan shared the point, Karan finished third.

A total of 302 players including a GM and an IM took part from all over the country, one from Kenya, South Africa, Singapore and USA each in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Rajashekar Bhagavatula at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana from 29th August to 2nd September 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
