Karnataka State Chess Championship Day 04 - An unrated player in dominating form!
The fourth day of Akshayakalpa Karnataka State Chess Championship also came to a conclusion. As the event is inching towards the end with only two more rounds to go, there are four players who are fighting it out for the top spot. Mr. Ajith Chandy Jose, who is lately representing the state of Karnataka, is an unrated player yet he is grabbing all the eyeballs for being one of the leaders with an incredible score of 6.5/7 points. The sixth round of the tournament was ruffled with an upsetting incident as a player's mobile phone began to ring out loud soon after the games were declared on. Our author Hinduja Reddy, who is currently present in the venue, brings glimpses of all the action and excitement.
Ajith Chandy Jose is unrated but still on a roll!
The Akshayakalpa Karnataka State Chess Championship, organized by Innovators Chess Academy at the Silicon Academy of Senior Education in Bengaluru, has found four leaders after the conclusion of seven rounds. Kaushik G Iyer, Likhit Chilukuri, Rakshith Srinivasan, and Ajith Chandy Jose have all scored 6.5/7 points each so far and are ahead of the rest of the field by half a point.
In the 6th round, Keshav Kothari surprisingly held top-seed WIM Isha Sharma to a draw on board one. However, the real shocker came from the second board where, just after the round started, Vivek Nambiar's phone began ringing obtrusively to everyone's dismay. Vivek had to forfeit his game after this unfortunate occurrence and the arbiters awarded the point to his opponent Ajith Chandy Jose. The incident left the tournament's atmosphere a bit unsettled.
In the seventh round, games in top two boards ended in draws. Isha Sharma had a comfortable edge against Ajith from the beginning but couldn’t capitalize on it, while Keshav Kothari and Santosh Kashyap agreed to a draw in just eight moves. Likhit Chilukuri defeated Gavi Siddayya to emerge as a co-leader.
Catch a glimpse of the electrifying atmosphere at the venue as the tournament inches closer towards the end!
