Abdulla Gadimbayli wins Ljubljana Chess Festival 2024, Harikrishnan A Ra second

GM Abdulla Gadimbayli (AZE) and IM Harikrishnan A Ra scored 7.5/9 each at Ljubljana Chess Festival 2024. Abdualla won the tournament as he won against Harikrishnan in the seventh round. Direct encounter was the first tie-break. Thus, Harikrishnan had to settle for second place. GM Jan Šubelj (SLO), IM Domen Tisaj (SLO) and GM Imre Hera Jr. (HUN) scored 7/9 each. They secured third to fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the festival was €13000. The top three prizes were €3000, €2200 and €1500 each. The eight-day nine-round tournament was organized by Tajfun - ŠK Ljubljana, Šahovska Šola Zmajcek and Goldenchess at Hotel Lev in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 27th April to 4th May 2024.

Gadimbayli clinches a double, Harikrishnan secures podium in both Classical and Blitz

GM Abdulla Gadimbayli (AZE) also won the 8th Zlatka Bašagića Memorial Blitz Rating Open 2024 with the same score 7.5/9. However, in Blitz, IM Harikrishnan A Ra managed to beat him in the fifth round. GM Jure Škoberne (SLO) scored sole 7/9 to secure second place. Harikrishnan finished third as he edged past three more players on tie-breaks scoring 6.5/9.

A total of 119 players including 7 GMs, 9 IMs and 2 WIMs took part from 14 countries across the world in this eight-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Tajfun Chess Club Ljubljana at Hotel Lev in Ljubljana from 27th April to 4th May 2024. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
