Abdusattorov wins 5th Sharjah Masters 2022, Abhijeet Gupta third
Reigning World Rapid 2021 champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) drew with Abhijeet Gupta in the final round to win 5th Sharjah Masters 2022. UAE no.1 GM Salem Saleh also finished with 7/9, however he was placed second as Abusattorov had beaten him in the seventh round. Both Abhijeet and Haik Martirosyan (ARM) scored 6.5/9 each. Abhijeet was placed third due to better tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was US$ 60000. Top three prizes were $10000, $8000 and $7000 along with Gold, Silver and Bronze medal each respectively. Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and Sethuraman in top 15
Abhijeet gained 21.4 Elo rating points, taking his live rating to 2627.4. Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi scored 6/9 each to secure sixth and ninth position respectively. Gukesh increased 8.6 points, his live rating is now 2683.2. Arjun Erigaisi added 6.8 points which means his live rating is now 2687.4. Sethuraman scored 5.5/9 to secure 11th position. His live rating is now 2623.2. Gukesh, Arjun and Sethuraman won $4000, $2500 and $1500 as their respective prize.

A total of 80 players including 59 GMs, 15 IMs, 2 WGMs and a WIM took part from 30 countries across the world including India. The tournament was organized by General Authority of Sports, Sharjah Sports Council and UAE Chess Federation from 21st to 29th May 2022 at Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, Sharjah, UAE. The nine-round Swiss league tournament had a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
