55th Biel MTO R6: Iniyan beats Yu Yangyi
GM Visakh N R drew with GM Aryan Chopra and IM Pranav Anand lost to GM Kirill Alekseenko. GM Alexander Motylev also won his game to join the lead and make it four-way 5/6 at 55th Biel Chess Festival 2022 MTO. GM Iniyan P scored the biggest win of the round when he beat GM Yangyi Yu (CHN). Iniyan showed his intent to beat the World no.27. Despite having a very difficult position, he managed to survive and eventually capitalize on his opponent's mistake. Gukesh got a pleasant position out of the Semi-Tarrasch opening against Andrey Esipenko. Somewhere in the middlegame Gukesh got discombobulated and made a few positional inaccuracies and allowed his opponent to invade his pieces.
Black wants to maximize his battery of rooks on the c-file. 35...Nd7 would have cleared the path for the rooks. However, he opted for 35...Bd7 36.Rd1 Qf4 37.d6 Rc6 38.Kg2 Na4 slowly the position completely turned into Black's favor and he went on to win the game.

Sometimes the intention to play for a win can have an impact on the game. A positive mindset always helps. GM Iniyan P (2533) was playing with the sole intetion to defeat China no.4 and World no.27 GM Yangyi Yu (2720).
Black wants to make a break on the kingside. 20...g5 is apt in this position. White managed to defend the position quite well and had a decisive advantage too. However, an eventual tactical mistake cost him material and the game.
