16th Chennai GM Open : Aleksandrov and Fedorov Leading With Full Score After 5 Rounds

The 16th Chennai Open International Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2026, held for the Sakthi Group Dr. N. Mahalingam Trophy, is currently underway in Chennai. As of January 5, 2026, the tournament has completed its first 5 rounds, and the 6th round will be played in the evening of 5th January as it's a double round day. From the 7th round on, 1 game will be played daily. After completion of 5 rounds, Belarusian Grandmasters Aleksandrov Aleksej and Fedorov Alexei are leading the event with a full score of 5/5. A total of 7 players are just a half point behind the leaders with 4.5/5 points. The event is taking place at the Hotel Ramada Egmore from January 2 to January 9, 2026. After completion of 5 rounds, a total of 7 players are trying to chase the Belarusian Grandmasters. Among these 7 players, we have GM Rohith Krishna S, GM Srihari LR, FM Jinan Jomon, Untitled Jihan Tejas Shah, who is increasing his rating by 69 points, IM Mehar Chinna Reddy CH, CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma, and GM Nguyen Van Huy on 4.5/5 points.
